“Mir” splashed down successfully.
On the 23d of March 2001 after 15-year mission the orbital complex “Mir” was de-orbited and submerged according to the plan, scheduled by the Russian specialists:
00:32:28 UTC (03:32:28 Moscow) given a command to engage a cargo spaceship “Progress”, docked to the station “Mir”, to carry out an equalizing manoeuvre.
02:00:24 UTC (05:00:24 Moscow) the 2nd equalizing manoeuvre was carried out.
05:07:36 UTC (08:07:36 Moscow) given a command to the last ignition of the engines for de-orbiting the station.

05:30 UTC (08:30 Moscow) as it was predicted radio contact with the complex “Mir” was lost.
05:44:04 UTC (08:44:04 Moscow) the orbital complex “Mir” entered into the dense layers of the atmosphere.
05:52:34 UTC (08:52:34 Moscow) the collapse of station “Mir” began in the dense layers of the atmosphere.
05:59:24 UTC (08:59:24 Moscow) more than 20 tons of unburned elements of the complex “Mir” dropped and sank in the southern part of Pacific ocean
- almost in the center of the predicted safe area of submergence.
“Mir” completely justified its name (in Russian “Mir” means “peace” and “world”) having accomplished its voyage safely for all mankind.
Russia carried out a unique de-orbits and submerging procedure of the Space station “Mir” weighing more than 130 tons.
More detailed information about the submergence of the orbital complex “Mir” and measures preceding this event will be given on our site.
