USA May 11 1950 Conducted fourth launch of high-altitude rocket "Viking-1" in framework of scientific program. For the first time launch was conducted from marine platform near Hawaii islands.
USSR May 11 1950 Born Alexander Sergeevich Bashilov - Director General of OAO (Join stock company) NPO "Molniya" since 1993. It is one of leading company in Russian space industry.
USA May 11 1962 "General Dynamics/Convair" company signed contract with NASA for development of "Little Joe 2" booster for testing of Emergency Escape System of "Apollo" spacecraft.
USSR May 11 1973 Under the name of "Cosmos-557" was launched "DOS-3" Salyut type space station. Because of wrong actions of ground control, space station failed to be delivered to an orbit.
USSR-USA May 11 1977 An agreement for joint experimental flights of "Salyut" type space stations and STS Space Shuttle between USSR Academy of Sciences and NASA was signed in Moscow. But first docking of the STS Space Shuttle with "Mir" space station was made only in 1995.

Russia May 12 1995 Russian cosmonaut G.M. Strekalov in the age of 54 made an EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity). He became the oldest Russian cosmonaut who made an EVA.

May 15 1969 Landing capsule of "Venera-5" probe conducted smooth descent on parachute on the night side of the Venus planet. Duration of landing - 53 minutes. During the descent more information was received about atmosphere of Venus than from "Venera-4" probe. Landing was done until atmospheric pressure in 27 atm.
USSR May 15 1982 Launch of 57-th "Soyuz-U"/SL-4 with "Zenith-6" low-resolution spy satellite of third generation named as"Argon" ended with accident of the booster.
