USSR May 1 1932 Sergey P. Korolyov was appointed as Head of GIRD (Group of Rocket Movement Research).
USSR May 1 1960 "R11D"/B-750/SA-2A/Guideline missile of anti-aircraft complex S-75 for the first time shot down American spy-aircraft "U-2" with the pilot F. Powers near Sverdlovsk city (now re-named as Samara city). Spy flights of "U-2" aircrafts over the USSR territory were conducted since 1956.
USSR May 1 1965 First live TV transmission was made by "Molniya-1" communication satellite for inhabitants of USSR Far East region. Parade and demonstration from the Red Square devoted to the International Workers Day was shown.
