"Sputnik" Space booster.

(Industry designation 8K71PS/8A91, Western designation SL-1 with first satellite, SL-2)

"Sputnik" Space booster was designed at Special Design Bureau #1 on the basis of ICBM R-7 under supervision of Designer General D. Kozlov. Production of the booster was conducted at factory #88 in Kaliningrad city and at "Progress" Plant in Kuibishev city. Engines were designed in Special Design Bureau #486 under supervision of Designer General V. Glushko. R-7 ICBM was re-designed with new aerodynamic shroud and payload. All together there were 4 launches, including 1 accident.
