"Cosmos-2" Space Booster.

(Industry designation 63C1/11K62, Western designation SL-7).

The booster of "light" class was designed on the basis of Middle-range missile R-12 according to Decision of Communist Party Central Committee and Soviet of Ministers of August 8th, 1960.

The purpose of such booster was to launch small satellites and small research probes. General Design Bureau #586 under Designer General Michael Yangel supervision designed the booster. (Same Design Bureau constructed MRM R-12).

In addition to R-12 missile a second stage was designed with the capacity to deliver to the orbit a satellite of 300 kilograms mass. Construction of the booster was conducted in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, on the Plant # 586.

First Test launch of the booster was conducted October 27th, 1961. All together until 1966 year there were 40 launches, including 12 accidents.
